Review: Hush Note 1: Lies & Lullabies
Lies & Lullabies by Sarina Bowen is the first book in the new Hush Note series. A series of three books, each one written by a different author but all set in the same world and of the same band, Hush Note. This is Joans and Kira's story. A summer friendship that began in Nest Lake, Maine between a young woman recovering from a tragic ordeal and a young rock star hiding away and finding his muse.
Jonas returns to Nest Lake with his band mates determined to find a few days of the peace he found that summer, five years ago. What he did NOT expect to find was the woman he left behind, his muse, his Kira. Even more so, he did not expect to learn that he was also a father.
Wonderfully written with views of the past interactions told as present day reminiscing and with a dual point of view between Jonas and Kira, this romance was everything I needed to get out of my book funk. Sarina always has been a must-read author for me and learning that this series not only had Sarina Bowen but also Devney Perry and Rebecca Yarros as authors was a absolute yes for me. Loved it! Enjoy!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Brilliantly written! HEA, 2nd Chance, Rockstar
Lies and Lullabies by Sarina Bowen is a terrific start of a new series that is brilliantly well written (as I’ve come to expect from Ms. Bowen).
There is so much to why this book is a 5 star read for me, but primarily the writing, storyline, and characters. .... and it was an immediate re-read for me. .... over and over and over.... I mentioned the writing ... but the storyline, is a solid standalone and a great start to what’s lining up to be a super creative series. This book is a HEA, Rockstar, and second chance with a super cute kiddo. The plot and subplots are well thought out ... this book has family drama, characters that question long standing convictions, and realization that taking a chance on love may not be as scary as it seems.
Kira (KiKi) has history with Jonas. She’s back in Nest Lake ME with her brother Adam trying to recover from a challenging situation. She’s busy raising her daughter Vivi and working on her degree ... all while trying to figure out her relationship with her father
Jonas is a tall drink of water ... he’s maturing and is ready for more ... when he comes to know that he actually has more that he didn’t know about. ... seeing how he matures and becomes a swoon worthy main character kept me reading long into the night. As the chemistry and connection between Kira and Jonas grows, they grow into a great couple.
Other characters in the book are what I hope to see in future books. ... in fact, up next is Quinn and Nixon ... but we’re all hoping for Ethan and Adam! If you’re looking for a new series and a good book that will pull you in from the start, Lies & Lullabies is for you!

Loved Jonas and Kira
I really loved both Jonas and Kira in this story. This book had all of the things I’ve come to expect from a Sarina Bowen book - great writing, characters and supporting cast I fall in love with and can’t wait to have more of, great dialogue, sweet scenes and emotional moments. It has its differences too, with this being a rock star trope, but at its core it’s a friends to lovers/2nd chance type story and I really enjoyed it. Jonas just grabbed me immediately and I loved how real and loyal he was. I cannot wait for the next 2 books from Devney Perry and Rebecca Yarros to continue the series and with the band.
Second chance with a twist!
I really enjoyed this rockstar storyline. A second chance romance with a twist. I loved the connection and chemistry between Jonas and Kira. Their journey is filled with longing, a bit of angst and most of all hope. Tim Paige and Erin Mallon’s narration is fantastic! I highly recommend this audiobook.
Hush Note 5 stars
By Leah Ana
5 Stars for Lies and Lullabies by Sarina Bowen
This story was so sweet and sad and sweet again and one of my favorite Sarina books of all time! Jonas and Kira had an obvious connection and he was good for her soul. She needed his friendship in an unbearable time in her life and he needed calm and peace to regroup, which she provided. It was hard to hear about their broken lives, but heartwarming to read their second chance story of healing.
“The cold water was a shock. But there were good shocks and bad ones. Sometimes they were impossible to tell apart.”
Let’s talk names- I love the name Jonas. I know, I know-thats a silly thing to like about a book, but I really do like that name. Sometimes hip, modern names will turn me off from a book or Ill know someone lame with a character’s name and honest to god I might not read it because of that. But no worries here because Jonas is a solid name! 😉
And how about the cover ❤️ I love the colors and the feeling of movement. The guy holding a guitar gives you an idea of what the book is about and I love that too. A cover should give you a feeling or a vibe, a glimpse of the story in picture form. This cover did exactly that.
I’m super judgy about names and covers but in truth, there are soooo many books out there and as a full time working mom of 3 I have very little time so I have to be selective somehow!
Sweet, emotional and great characters!

Sweet second chance/rockstar romance with a big surprise!
Kira and Jonas spend a summer together as friends with a lot of chemistry and feelings. I liked that they got to know each other as friends first. It made the connection more real for me.
Kira isn’t aware that “John” is Jonas a famous rockstar. He’s having some incognito time in her small New England town.
At the end of summer they give into their attraction and they go their separate ways.
Both, think of each other often.
Then approximately 5 years later they run into each other again, they both are visiting the small town where it all happened.
The story goes between past and present. It’s well paced. I liked the characters a lot. The secondary characters are great, too! Vivi and Adam in particular were favorites.
It had great banter and lots of emotions. Many swoony moments.
Jonas is book boyfriend gold!
Really enjoyed the story and the characters are great!
Great start to the Hush Note series
This introduction to Hush Note starts with a bang. After one unforgettable summer in Maine, Jonas is back to write another album in the place where he found a lot of inspiration and a love that he never meant to find.
I thought that Jonas and Kira were super sweet. I loved the flashback to their summer together 5 years ago and the friendship that they built over that time. Vivi is adorable and I loved everything about her!
I think this series is going to be pretty angsty and full of drama. I am really excited about Nixon’s book and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Adam will get his own HEA!!
An entertaining kickoff start to the Hush Note series!
Lies and Lullabies was a sexy, angsty, entertaining, and swoon-worthy standalone rock star romance, as well as start to the Hush Note series.
Sarina Bowen did a great job with the storyline and kept me entertained from start to finish. It took me several chapters to really get invested in the story and to feel a connection with the characters and the chemistry between them, but once I did, I really enjoyed it. Jonas and Kira’s journey wasn’t easy and they had obstacles to overcome and trials and tribulations to endure, but everything was worth it in the end and the author gave me a happy ending for this wonderful couple.
I loved the characters. Jonas and Kira (and their daughter Vivi) stole my heart and I loved them dearly. They had wonderful personalities and I enjoyed the relationship they had together. Jonas and Kira’s chemistry was red-hot, and there were plenty of sexy scenes to go around. Jonas was incredibly sweet and swoon-worthy, and I loved how he treated Kira and Vivi. I connected with him the most and loved him as the hero. I also loved Kira’s brother, Adam, and a few other secondary characters.
Lies and Lullabies was a sexy, angsty, swoon-worthy, and entertaining standalone rock star romance, and I would definitely recommend Jonas and Kira’s story. I loved this intro to the Hush Note series, and I can’t wait to read the other two standalones from Devney Perry and Rebecca Yarros!
