cloth dated and lettered in gilt, blind stamped and gilt lettered
spine, minimal wear to binding, pp. xii + 400 and 12 folding
diagrams at rear (not called for in contents but mentioned
by the author in the preface, frontispiece portrait plate of
Wallace, generally free of foxing though the first few leaves
(half-title and title page) and the last leaf of the index have
some spots. some pencil marks in margins, front endpaper
cracked, previous owners small stamped name on half
title and title page, a bright and
very good copy.
All the folding diagrams, printed on very thin but strong paper,
are present and in good condition. It is worth noting that
these diagrams, used by Wallace as evidence to show the
evils of vaccination, were - along with the chapter on that
subject - absent from later editions.
Alfred Russel Wallace OM FRS(8 January 1823 – 7
November 1913) was a British naturalist, explorer, geographer,
anthropologist, and biologist. He is best known for
independently conceiving the theory of evolution
through natural selection.
